Light Up the Party with Outdoor String Lights

Outdoor light strings are great for a party or special occasion. These lights lend a festive spirit to the atmosphere and can be used both inside and outside the home. There are many styles of lights available, and each individual must decide which style works best for them based on functionality, aesthetic appeal and energy source.

Holiday string lights are available in two styles; the traditional style that we all know and love, and a newer mesh type that you can wrap around tree trunks or shrubs in your garden. You have the choice of lights that stay lit, keep twinkling or chase in sequence. These string lights are composed of tiny LED or incandescent bulbs light that are also suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. The greatest quality of the rope light is its flexibility, enabling you to easily wrap it around any contour.

LED lights conserve energy, are environmentally friendly and are the preferred choice of both professionals and homeowners. They are also durable and safe. With LED rope lights, you get a very versatile lighting that you can install wherever you want. When you place it behind an object, you can see a halo like glow around it, enhancing its silhouette. Apart from this, you can use rope lights to define a particular shape by using it around its perimeter. This can be quite an attention grabber. You might have seen these used around patios, staircases, the front of buildings, railings, etc. For a funkier look, these can even be twisted into interesting shapes and displayed. This can be used along with your Christmas string lights for some great holiday decorations.

Another innovation with outdoor light strings is the solar string lights. These solar lights are just like the electric string lights, except that you have more flexibility in using them. A wide variety of colors are available to best suit your décor and mood. For example, white lights look classy and are highly suited for formal events, while the multicolored ones look great during the holiday season and can be quite a mood booster.

With the recent “green” movement, solar lights are becoming an increasingly popular way to conserve energy, not to mention save some money on your energy bill. Solar lights are low voltage and have a nice soft look, bringing a glow to your landscape. You also get solar floodlights and spotlights, which you can use in conjunction with your string lights.

String lights can be used in many ways creatively as decoration or functionally by lighting a path or walkway in your backyard. During the winter holidays you can string them around your Christmas tree, or around your backyard gazebo for your guests to admire. I own this Huntington String Lighting Set, and find it provides just enough light to illuminate the walkway to my gazebo in our yard and contributes nicely to the ambiance of our backyard decor.

Tabletop Lighting the Practical Alternative to An Outdoor Fireplace

There is something I find quite tranquil about outdoor lighting on a warm summer’s night. As many will agree, there is something remarkable about the ambiance the right outdoor lighting can create as you relax on your patio or deck with friends or family. However, some people may want to enjoy the benefits of outdoor lighting without necessarily having to dedicate all your effort and attention tending to a fire. For those who apply, outdoor tabletop lighting may be a sufficient alternative. Outdoor tabletop lighting is a tremendous way to enhance the aesthetic appeal of your outdoor space and, due to the variety of available sizes, shapes and material, can be customized to compliment any backyard patio or deck.

When selecting an outdoor tabletop light fixture for your home, you must first question your own motive. These light fixtures can be decorative or utilitarian depending on your preference, so it is important to determine what your requisites are before selecting. For those who aren’t sure what they need exactly, a good idea might be to make a plan that provides for both ambient and task lighting. This means you can have some lights focusing upward and some downward in order to create a special ambiance that is both warm and inviting.

There are various outdoor lighting options, sure to fulfill the needs of any homeowner. Deck owners may enjoy fixtures they can mount on their deck and deck rails to illuminate the area, while others may prefer wall sconces or decorative chandeliers for that warm glow in addition to looking stylish. If you believe something portable would better suit your needs, both floor and tabletop style lamps are available that may be conveniently placed wherever you choose. I own the Kenroy Home Marianas Outdoor Table Lamp, and am very pleased with the way it compliments the rest of my outdoor décor.

Outdoor tabletop lighting is practical and appealing, and can prove to be a great alternative to the outdoor fireplace. These outdoor lighting fixtures can transform any outdoor space into a cozy area to unwind at the end of a long day, or to spend time with your friends and family.

Simple Ways to Improve Your Outdoor Space

Ready for an exciting night out? How about your own backyard? With these simple improvements to your outdoor space you’ll never feel like leaving home.

The first step is to build an outdoor fireplace. There is a wide variety of styles for outdoor fireplaces. The chiminea comes in several different materials including cast iron, clay and aluminum. Chimineas use small logs of firewood, preferably fat wood. A chiminea cover can keep the dust and debris out of it when it is not in use.

You can narrow down the choices by selecting the fuel that is right for you. Apart from outdoor wood burning fireplaces and wood stoves you can also opt for gas fireplaces or gas fireplace inserts in your hearth. This does away with the hassle of cleaning out ash and a dirty chimney after each use since gas fireplaces can be operated and controlled through a switch just as with electric fireplaces.

Of course you can also enjoy the occasional campfire on those warm evenings when you don’t really need an outdoor heater. Your outdoor fireplace should have a cooking option so that you can have barbecue weekends. My favorite is the Landmann Big Sky Stars & Moons Fire Pit. It features unique and stylish decorative cutouts that create an incredible ambiance at night. It's sturdy steel construction designed for easy assembly. It has a full-size enamel cooking grate included as well as a spark guard cover and poker.

Once you’ve completed planning your outdoor heating you need to provide adequate landscape lighting which can include floodlights, in-ground lights, path lights, lanterns, torches or spotlights. An alternative energy option is solar powered landscape lights so you can save on energy bills.

Outdoor spotlights are quite popular for accent lighting. You can use LED spotlights that are long lasting. For more ambient lighting outdoor floodlights are more suitable. These can be portable floodlights, which are electric floodlights or rechargeable floodlights.
